“Defect” – A term used for an item that has a heavy imperfection or defects that are inside of the template and more widespread, potentially avoidable during the building process.

This set contains Knots and Tear Out.

Knots/Pin Knots are tiny limbs that stretch out from the trees heartwood attempting to create a new limb. These knots regardless of size generally travel from or near the center of the tree out toward the outer sapwood and bark. Many times pin knots can also become included.

Tear Out is a process in which a machine jointer or planer during the cutting process pulls out isolated areas of wood due to either the figure or grain orientation. Certain woods are more vulnerable to tearing. Depending on where the tear out is, you may need to sand further to eliminate the tear out.
